It’s the most wonderful time of year, the weather is warming up and its finally music festival season. There’s no doubt Coachella has become more than just a music festival. With more and more brands capitalizing on the aesthetics of the festival style, Coachella and other festivals alike are viewed as a fashion show and a chance to be photographed more than ever. But before you start packing every fringe item, statement necklace, and maxi dress from your closet, lets go over the necessities for attending Coachella.
Keep your looks simple.
It’s extremely hot at Coachella with very little shade and no escape from the sun. Shorts and flowy tops are a must, crop tops are advised, and dresses are definitely recommended. There’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable and fussing with an outfit AND being stuck in the hot sun.
Get Used to Port-o-Potties for the Weekend
The most dreaded part of Coachella: the bathroom situation. Just for this weekend avoid rompers and floor grazing pants like the plague. Just think about what you will be stepping on when you have to go to the bathroom. Gross.
Speaking of What You Will Be Stepping On…
You will have your feet stepped on in crowds or will accidentally step on someone else’s feet. It’s part of every concert/music festival experience. Embrace it and wear closed toe shoes like boots or sneakers and avoid broken toes.
Hats: Practical & Cute
Definitely wear a hat for protection from the sun and to look super chic, obviously.
Be Smart About Your Bag
There are thousands upon thousands of people attending this music festival and there are always those shiesty ones who will attempt to steal things from people’s bags. Either get a locker or be smart about the bag you use. Don’t bring valuables into the festival and definitely leave the designer wallets and shades at home (I know its really hard to do this but I’d rather keep those safe and in my own possession rather than some stranger’s). I personally think bucket bags are the best. Chances are no one is going to stick their hands into the bottom of your bucket bag and dig for your phone or money without you noticing.
It’s All in the Accessories
Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings, etc. are absolutely encouraged but don’t over do it. No one wants to hear jingle bells around them while trying to jam to Major Lazer.
And Most Importantly…
Have fun! It’s Coachella! Enjoy the music, the ambience, the people, the craziness, the food, the art, the fashion, the lack of cell phone service, and everything else Coachella has to offer. Don’t over think your looks. If you are comfortable in what you are wearing, you will rock this runway, Coachella style.
